C.M.G., (neck badge, silver-gilt and enamels), D.S.O. (V.R.), gold and enamels, Afghan, no clasp (Lieut. R.A.),  I.G.S. 1854,  clasp, Burma 1885-87 (Captn.  R.A.), Delhi Durbar 1903, silver, 

D.S.O. L.G. 25/11/1887

Alfred Keene was born, 1855, commissioned as a Lieutenant in the Royal Artillery, 1874. He served in Afghanistan 1878-80, and took part in the march from Quetta to the relief of Kandahar, in command of two guns of No. 2 Bombay Mountain Battery (despatches L.G. 25/1/1881).

Served in the Burmese expedition of 1886-87,  commanding  No. 1 Bombay Mountain Battery, (mentioned in despatches, L.g. 2/9/1887  and D.S.O.)

He subsequently commanded the Artillery contingent at the Delhi Durbar in 1903, was promoted to Colonel in 1904, and retired on half-pay in 1905. At the outbreak of the Great War in 1914, he was employed at the War Office,  created a C.M.G. in January 1918, and died on 21 April 1918. (no other Great War medals).
