correctly impressed

With good set of copy papers, William Jordan, a shoemaker from Lourgan, Co. Monaghan. B. 1805, enl. 1822 into the 20th. Transf. for continued service in India to the 13th in 1836 and served throughout the campaigns of 1839-42.

Papers state 'Present at the storming of Ghuznee in July 1839; the forts of Tootamdurra and Julga in the Kohistan in 1840, several engagements in forcing the passes from the passes from Cabul to Jellalabad in 1841 and in the defence of the latter fortress in 1841/2. Present in the engagement at Jellalabad  7/4/1842 at Jugdulluk 8th Sept.  Tazin 13th Sept. and the recapture of Cabul  15th Septr. 1842.

Promoted to Sergeant on three occasions and Corporal once only to lose them  he was finally invalided to Chatham in 1845  and disch. to pension 15/11/1845 after 22 years of service.
