Squadron Leader Brian Hibbs Walker was born on 4/12/1921, Commissioned 27/2/1943; Flying Officer 27/8/1944, General Duties Branch; Flight Lieutenant 27/2/1945, General Duties Branch; Squadron Leader 1/10/1954, General Duties Branch, (General Duties Officer & Master Pilot); Retired from General Duties on 1/10/1973.
Commd. 1943, flew operationally during the war believed a tour on Lancasters. Served in Malaya, with 148 Sqdn. from April 1954 initially strikes against pinpoint targets. In July he took part in ‘Operation Termite’ in collaboration with ground forces involving the dropping of 1000lb bombs followed by parachute drops to mop up any remaining opposition. 148 then returned to the UK. In October 1954, walker was promoted Sqdn. Ldr. returning to Malaya the following month again with 148 as C.O. of the Squadrons operational detachment and was involved in bombing operations until March 1955. During December the Squadron carry out 23 strikes. During the first week of January 1955 of “Bold” they carried out 20 strikes in the Temerloh, Triang, Taiping and Kampong Punggai areas. During the first three months 120 strikes took place where 120,000 tons of bombs were dropped and nearly 50,000 rounds of 0.5″ were fired. Over that period Walker took part in 25 different missions.
