'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty  when an enemy set fire to an ammunition dump and wounded six men, three of whom fell amongst the burning ammunition. This officer, with a non-commissioned officer immediately dashed into the flames and got out the wounded men. His displayed great courage and presence of mind.'

Thomas Mark Jennings, b. 3/5/1886 in Sunderland, returned to the U.K. in Feb. 1915 from Antofagasta, Chile, where he was employed as a book-keeper, then  address as 13 Durham Road, occup. Enl.  as Gunner 4/3/1915 in Sunderland and served with B Battery, 160 Wearside Brigade R.F.A.  promoted Colour Qr. Mstr. Sergt. 22/5/1915, served in France from January, 1916, B.Q.M.S. August 1916. Discharged to commission 11/1/1918. served 'A' Batty. 82nd  Bde. and won his award whilst the Battery was supporting a counter-attack near Morlancourt.

His medals are recorded as sent to the British Consul, Antofagasta, Chile 10/1919
