Glasgow 1808, son of a rum merchant served in the First Afghan War, forcing of the Khyber Pass, Actions at Ali Musjid, Operations wih Brigadier Wildes’ Brigade, Re-occupation of Cabul. Second Sikh War 1848-49 . Major 1849, ret. 1850, died 1856,. Twice a widower both dying young in India. residing in 1851 at Grangehill House, Beith, Ayrshire and later Pau, S.W. France
