With photo in uniform, named boxes of issue, plaque contained in fine Maltese Cross frame.
On 15/6/1915 the battalion was marched through Yrpes to the assembly position. Following bombardents 3 companies of the battalion attacked at 4.00 a.m. and despite heavy casualties overran the enemy front line and advanced to railway Wood where they captured a strong triangle of enemy trenches. The greatly reduced battalion were relieved that evening and retired to Ouderdom having sustained losses of 15 officers and 386 men killed and wounded. The regimental history records that casualties were 75%.
