Martin Evans B. 1964 enl. December 1980, being posted to the 1st Battalion from 28th April 1982.
Evans was very shortly afterwards posted as part of Operation Corporate to the Falklands Islands, where he saw service from 12th May 1982 to 17th June 1982.
Evans was posted to Cyprus from August to September 1983, and then to Germany from February to July 1984, followed by Canada from July to August 1984, and Germany again from August 1984 to March 1986, and during this period underwent a course as a sniper between October and November 1985.
Employed on his first tour of Northern Ireland from 4th March 1986 to 16th February 1988, and a second tour of Northern Ireland between 12th September 1988 and 28th January 1989, and after a period of home service, was then posted to Belize for jungle training from April to October 1989. Having returned home, Evans was then posted to Kenya between January to February 1991, and after a further period of home service, during which period he was promoted to Lance Corporal on 5th December 1991, was then posted for a third tour of Northern Ireland from 16th March 1992 to 17th August 1994, during which period he was awarded the Accumulated Campaign Service Medal, having amassed 36 months of accumulated campaign service, all of it in Northern Ireland.
Evans was promoted from Lance Corporal strait to Lance Sergeant on 2nd September 1996, on which date he joined the 22nd Special Air Service Regiment. Evans took part in three classified overseas postings with 22 SAS, the first being from 31st August to 19th September 1996, the second from 5th March to 18th March 1997, and the third from 2nd September 1997 to 15th February 1999, during which period he had transferred back from SAS to the 1st Welsh Guards Mechanised Battalion on 7th September 1998.
Posted to the United States between February and March 1999, and then to Canada from August to October 2001, he saw service with the Welsh Guards during a tour of Bosnia and Herzegovina from 20th March to 27th September 2002, before being posted home and discharged, his discharge having officially come up on 3rd September 2002. Evans, who had been awarded the Jubilee Medal 2002 on 7th February 2002, was also awarded the NATO Medal for Former Yugoslavia on 25th August 2002.
