Wounded in the left knee at Badajoz, served a total of 22 years, including the campaigns of 1811-1814, North America, Waterloo and New South Wales for five years. The 40th saw service in New South wales and Van Dieman’s Land, 1823-28. He saw final discharge in 1832 .
The 40th suffered some 15 officers and 220 O.Rs. killed and wounded during the final assault on Badajoz
