Waterloo, William Brooks, 1st Regiment Life Guards

A remarkable service span in which Brooks did not receive his discharge until 1844 and by then served some 32 years. A cloth dresser from Almondbury, Huddersfield, Yorks he enl. in 1812 aged 17. He served 1 year under age, 30 years, 283 days with 2 years added for Waterloo.
Though his conduct was rated as very good throughout he remained a Private. His discharge was due to the effects of long service and ‘Not attributable to vice, design, neglect or interference.’

The medal has a fair degree of contact wear though not surprising given the recipient wore this in uniform for not far short of thirty years and by the time of his discharge must have numbered among the very last if not the last of the enlisted Waterloo veterans of the regiment
