‘For marked gallantry and dashing leadership near Jenlain, on 3rd and 4th November, 1918. He led his company into a gap againstdetermined opposition, capturing prisoners and securing the safety of his battalion. He then reorganised his company and led them in attack, securing his objective and beyond, capturing prisoners, machine guns, and a field gun, and mopping up Wargnies-le-Grand.

James Harold Bermingham Young, B. Darlington, Co. Durham 1893, enl. 20th (Public Schools Btn.) R. Fus. November, 1914 and served in France from November, 1915. Discharged to commission, Cheshire Regt. 28 February, 1917 . 1939 Register states Chartered Accountant, Canterbury. Died 1969.
Distinguished Service medal group (GV1) , excellent Merchant Seaman award for the action between Armed Merchant Cruiser (previously RMMV) Caernarvon Castle and the German Raider ‘Thor’, 5 December 1940. Later served Operation Pedestal , the epic Malta convoy (oil tanker Ohio) where aboard and surviving the sinking of MV Wairangi when torpedoed and sunk by enemy torpedo boats
Distinguished Flying Cross (GV) &; Second Award Bar, a superb 20 Victory scout 'Ace' all with 84 SE5a Squadron, served with and second only behind Andrew Beauchamp-Proctor V.C. Additionally one of only 8 British 'Balloon Buster' Aces. A lovely unmounted group, the recipient being killed shortly after discharge as a result of a motor bike accident
