Awarded a Bar to his DFC for the sinking of U751 by a low level attack with his Lancaster in so providing the first irrefutable photographic evidence of his ‘kill ‘ and a remarkable instance of the sinking by a front line bomber squadron. A detachment of 61 Sqdn (Lancaster) ‘loaned’ to Coastal Command. along with a complete set of Log Books

Distinguished Flying Medal group with Log Book, (57 ops.) a fine immediate award, Sgt. (WO/Air Gunner) 462 Squadron (previously 58 & 405 Sqdns.) awarded during a raid on Palermo Harbour bracing his foot against an igniting flare chute. The resulting explosion rather than the probable destruction of the aircraft was restricted to severely injuring the recipients foot along with and damage only to the rear blowing out the rear bulkhead door, twisting the ammunition tracks and distorting many frame members. Despite his injuries continued to carry out his duties . Had previously participated in the destruction of two enemy fighters. Later commissioned Pilot Officer.

Stunning 617 (Dambuster) Squadron Pilot’s 1944 D.S.O., 1943 ‘Pathfinder’s’ D.F.C., 1943 D.F.M. group of nine awarded to Wellington, Lancaster and Mosquito Pilo. At least 87 Ops, over Europe, he flew 30 of them with the famous “Dam Busters”; and became a “Tallboy” specialist. Scored a direct hit, with the “Earthquake” Bomb, on the entrance of the Saumur Tunnel on 8 June 1944; having obliterated Leonard Cheshire’s marking Flare causing Cheshire to remark “…hold on chaps, I’ll have to mark it again.” FlewVampire Jets over the Malayan Jungle completing nearly 50 ‘strikes’ and returned to Bomber Command to take part in Operations during the Suez Crisis in November 1956.
