‘For conspicuous gallantry and resource. He took command of a platoon when it was held up during an attack and led it to the objective inflicting heavy casualties on the enemy. In a later attack he took command of half company when the officers became casualties and led his men forward with great skill and determination. He set a splendid example to all ranks throughout the operations.’
