Riding Regiment, recommended for the Victoria Cross for great and conspicuous gallantry in leaving his trench and under heavy machine gun fire and rescuing a badly wounded man within 40 yards of the German trenches. Mortally wounded 18 April, 1915 during the Battlion assault on Hill 60 Ypres, dying two days later.

Naval General Service Medal clasp Trafalgar awarded to Admiral Hugh Patton, Royal Navy, who served as a Midshipman on board the Bellerophon at the battle . Of the finest ships at the battle , ‘The Billy Ruffian’ engaged against several of the enemy ships and then locked together in a desperate action with the French 74 L’Aigle. Bellerophon suffered some 30% of her crew in killed or wounded and her Captain killed. A superb Distinguished Flying Cross, Distinguished Flying Medal group , from pre war bi-planes to Boeings , from Sgt to Wing Commander in a little over a year, with 3 log books, a lovely pre war hand written and illustrated extensive training book, a 111 page biography of the recipient published after his death. From 50 + ops almost exclusively over Germany (Whitley & Halifax) . One of the aircraft of 76 Squadron that scored multiple hits on Scharnhorst in July 1941. Later served in the Middle East including Dakotas and the parachute dropping of Greek Sacred Squadron on Samos, to Burma to the final operations in the recapture of Rangoon. A long civilian career post war mostly in African trouble spots including for a time the personal pilot of Moise Tshombe until they were all arrested and imprisoned.

Distinguished Flying Medal (GV1) an Operation ‘Colossus’ award as Sgt (W/T) in the crew of J.B. ‘Willie’ Tait, DSO & 3 Bars, D.F.C. & Bar. The first parachute operation for the British Army when 35 officers and men of X Troop , 11 S.A.S. were dropped by 6 Whitleys of 51 Sqdn. with hand picked crews on 11 Feb. 1941 to destroy the important aqueduct at Tragino , Southern Italy. Successfully demolished the SAS split into four groups for the 60 mile trek to a submarine pick up. None of the groups made it back but this raid set the marker for future raids. It won Tait his first DSO in his last op with 51 Sqdn. The recipient was lost on air ops some 2 weeks later.

A good Royal Flying Corps 1916 Military Cross and 1914/15 trio (RFC & RAF) France & Italian Front fighter pilot’s group He won the Military Cross whilst a flight leader in an aerial engagement on 17th June 1916, helping to shoot down a hostile machine, In July 1916 he scored one of the first victories with Le Prieur incendiary rockets bringing a Kite Balloon down in flames. Commanded 45 Squadron in Italy July 1918 at a few days after his 21 birthday, and reputedly the youngest Major and Commanding Officer in the Royal Air Force.
