Tasked with the assault on the San Vincente bastion close by the river on the north-western wall by ladder escalade. The men of 1/4th set to with a will beating back a small enemy unit along the walls. A counter attack caught them in some disorder sweeping them back again, the fighting was all of a confused nature and in the struggle for possession of the walls 230 men of 1/4th fell casualty. Other parts of the Division following up gained entry into the town taking the still held breaches in the rear.
proceeding to America in May, 1814 they took part in the battle of New Orleans losing some half their number in killed and wounded
