Commanded the Regiment from 1915-18, T/Command of the 7th Cavalry Brigade , July 1918, included the mounted cavalry action at the Amien breakthough, 8 August, 1918 (horse shot from under him). Commanded 6th Cavalry Brigade at the final major Cavalry action of the War, being the charge at Honnechy resulting in it’s capture. Four times MID for the Great war in addition

The 1st Lifeguards had been led in 11 separate charges by their severely wounded Colonel Ferrier. Ferrier being killed and all remaining officers casualty or unhorsed the final charge was led by a Quartermaster who almost immediately fell wounded
